Another Inspiring Thames Houseboat

Via The Sunday Times

Back onto the subject of houseboats... I just came across this feature on author Josie Curran's Thames abode. I love colour and pattern and her styling has both. So pleasing!

Gold and silver obsession

I styled this shot today as part of my interior course at Saint Martins. It will form part of my mood board for my next project. In terms of interiors, I think over use of either gold/silver can look a bit garish, but as an accent, can look pretty darn cool. Some examples below to try on...

Make art with wallpaper samples

I love getting inspiration from wallpaper samples. Online stores have a huge range and post them out to you within a few days for no more than .50p each - some are even free.

They work well for making your own art too. I got bored with the picture in the gold vintage frame so dropped a sample in there instead.

Colour clash on a houseboat

This week's ST Style has a great feature on interior-design consultant Polly Dickens' London barge. I love the bright colour she's used. The white walls and dark floors really set it off.

Vintage Find

I found this amazing wicker chair in a local charity shop near my home. It was £25. Just goes to show you don't need to spend hundreds of £ to furnish your home with a nod to modern design.

I've found it pays to regularly visit such shops, it increases your chances of nabbing something special.
If you can muster the energy, head to them in the morning -  that's when the best stuff is available (before the collectors/dealers have arrived)!

Columbia Road Flower Market

Here are a few snapshots from my Sunday morning adventure to the best flower market in London. Bottom two pics are my purchases in my house!

My First Post

My first post. How exciting. My name is Alana and I'm an Australian who's been living in London, UK for the past six years, working in media PR. Throughout this time I've been developing my love of interiors and all things related. This blog will be my creative outlet - when my day job just doesn't cut it (I like to think I'm really an interior stylist at heart).

Here I will share my ideas for a creative life and home. I'll post my DIY projects revamping vintage furniture (from a lick of paint, upholstering and even decoupage), share my ideas for home decoration on a budget, journal beautiful things that inspire me and use this blog to record the creative journey I've embarked upon.

I hope you might find my blog to be colourful, inspiring and encouraging, or at the very least, a bit of fun. Thanks for stopping by. Alana x
